DS160PT801: DS160PT801

Part Number: DS160PT801

Hello,

I'm hardware engineer and try to design PCIe Retimer board.

So I'm studying TI's PCIe Retimer device and I have some questions about REFCLK architecture.

According to datasheet, REFCLK architecture have four cases below.

1. common REFCLK - RC, Retimer and EP use the same REFCLK
2. Non-common REFCLK - RC use independent REFCLK, EP and Retimer use the same REFCLK
3. Non-common REFCLK - RC and Retimer use the same REFCLK, EP use independent REFCLK
4. Non-common REFCLK - RC, EP and Retimer use independent REFCLK respectively

But, REFCLK architecture supported by ______________and ____________ have some difference.

Both Common REFCLK Architecture are the same, but Non-common REFCLK Architecture are not.

___________ can support all of four cases, but ____________ cannot support case 2 and case 4.

I'm wondering why the difference comes from?

  • Hi Byungju,

I have edited your post to remove the parts you mentioned as one of them is not yet released.

To answer your question.  I am not sure why there is a difference in the documentation; we are in the early stages of this new device, and I would need to ask the systems engineer who wrote the document where this difference comes from.  He is currently out of office.  It would be best to communicate through the Texas Instruments Field Application Engineer that is assigned to your company.  Do you know who that is?  I can find them and send you their contact info if needed.

Your FAE has access to an internal E2E forum that they can post to answer confidential questions like this.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus

  • Hi Nicholaus,

First of all, thank you for your reply.
Would you please ask about my question to your systems engineer who wrote the document for me?
Because I already asked about it to our FAE, and they told me that there are no person who can answer my question in the local site.
They also recommended that it's better to ask the question on the E2E web site.

    Regards,

    Byungju Kim.

  • Hi Byungju,

I will ask the Systems engineer about the document, but I cannot post updates here on this public forum.  I do agree that it is good to ask a non-confidential question on this E2E forum, but it cannot be used for pre-release devices.

I will find your FAE and discuss this with them, and I will make sure they get back to you with the updates.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus

  • Hi Nicholaus,

    Thank you for your reply.

And let me know if you have questions anytime.

    Regards,

    Byungju Kim

  • Hi Nicholaus,

I got your answer from FAE. Thanks for your help.

And, I have another questions for you.

    1. Is there the latest datasheet about Retimer? If so, would you please share it?

My datasheet version is below :

    - PT801(Datasheet Version : SNLS550A – DECEMBER 2020 – REVISED JUNE 2022)

    - xxx

    2. About PT801, may I know when the validation schedule of PT801 is finished?

    3. Can I get the information of xxxx?(ex. Datasheet, technical documents, etc)

    Regards,

    Byungju Kim

  • Hi Nicholaus,

    I have one more thing.

According to technical document of DS160PT801, it says that there are example EEPROM images for DS160PT801 on ti.com.

I want to get those files, please let me know where it is.

    Regards,

    Byungju Kim

  • Hi Byungju,

You are correct.  We have these available through MySecure by request only.  I have sent you a private e-mail with more information.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus

  • Hi Nicholaus,

I have sent you a message which is including my e-mail address.

    Would you please check it?

    Regards,

    Byungju Kim

  • Hi Byungju,

I have granted you access, and you should receive an e-mail in the next 30 minutes.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus

  • Hi Byungju,

I edited one of your earlier responses to remove the mention of our un-released part.  Again, we cannot discuss that part on this forum since it is open to the public.  After discussing this internally, we will handle communication about this part through Kenneth.  So, if you have any questions about it, please contact him or the other team within LG that has the latest information.

I'm closing this issue for now, as I can only offer support for the released DS160PT801.

    Regards,

    Nicholaus
