Hi Experts,

Please help answer the 3 questions from our customer.

1. What kind of cable is used for 100BASE-T1?

2. If I buy two DP83TC812EVM-MC, can they communicate with each other in 100BASE-T1 mode?

3. What about in different modes? Is it capable of auto-negotiation?

Hi Josel,

To answer your questions in order:

1) The cable specifications are defined in IEEE802.3bw. However, we have seen Leoni Dacar 647 in some applications.

2) If you have 2x DP83TC812EVM-MCs, they can communicate with each other in 100Base-T1 mode. Please ensure PHYs are in autonomous mode, as well as proper master/slave configuration. The user's guide will have this specified for bootstrap configuration.

3) See above. Auto-negotiation is not supported on DP83TC812, rather it is capable of link training.

Good day.

The customer thinks that Leoni Dacar 647 is for 1000BASE-T1, and Leoni Dacar 647-4 is for 100BASE-T1.

Which one is suitable for DP83TC812EVM-MC?

Hi Josel,

We have qualified DP83TC812 to work with both STP and UTP cables from Leoni Dacar 647. Either cable is sufficient.

We have used 9-2304372-9 for our EVM, but others may work. It is up to customer to validate this.
