TCA9517: VCC Rules

Part Number: TCA9517

Hi Team,

I am posting in behalf of the customer. Please check the full details of inquiry below.

I'm designing a board in which I need to translate I2C logic levels between two different voltages and I decided to use the TCA9517. I can't understand if there are Vcc rules between the two supply voltages, because I find different information. In the datasheet I can't find any Vcc rule, but the website page of the component states that VCCA <= VCCB. Furthermore, in your application note SCPA054 titled "Why, When, and How to use I2C Buffers" for the TCA9517 there are "No Vcc rules". So I'm asking what is the correct information.

Thank you in advance for the support

Best regards,

Jonathan

  • Jonathan,

This was changed back in 2017 which is why you might see some conflicting information. You can see this in the Revision History of the TCA9517 data sheet, from Revision C to Revision D.

I'll look to see if we can get the ti.com note changed. Keep in mind that the data sheet is the governing document for device operation.

    Best,

    Danny
