DS90UB941AS-Q1: DS90UB941 - possible reasons for IC degradation

Hi Team,

I found one of the particular modules alone reporting CRC error and flickering screen DS90UB941. If I changed with a new IC on the same board. I didn't find a single CRC error.

So the failure is following the ICs. What are the possible reasons cause this kind of failure in the ICs?

Is there any silicon problem, soldering profile, or Poor Grounding? etc? Maybe you already cross across this kind of issue.

Kindly provide the details.

Hi Selva,

There are several reasons this may be happening, many CRC errors have to do with excess noise or EMI issues. I will have to discuss with my team and get back to you next week.

Okay, 1. I strongly believe it is not happened due to the EMI interference. The failure was followed by the IC. If I remove this IC and mount it in another module I can see the same failure on the good board now. 2. Does noise mean supply voltage noise?

Can you please share the full s-parameters for the channel between SER/DES including PCB and cable? That way we can review against the FPD III channel specifications

Hi Casey,

We have more than sufficient loss budget between the serializer and deserializer. The impedance looks good. SI-wise the entire chain is good.

The failure is following the IC, not the module. So the S-parameter report won't help to debug this issue.

If I mount the failed one on your evaluation PCB, It will start to produce the CRC.

Hi Selva,

Since the failure follows the IC, have you been in contact with your FAE? If this issue follows this particular IC, it is best to follow up off of E2E for FA if there is not that communication already.
