USB PD CC Pins Configuration

We are using a USB 3.0 PD Sink controller. As our device sinks power we connect the CC1 & CC2 pins of USB type-C Receptacle to ground with 5.1K resistor.
What will be the voltage at CC1 & CC2 pin of Receptacle during the below conditions
1)USB Plug connected in unflipped orientation
2)USB Plug connected in flipped orientation

Hi Rama,

The cable orientation determines what voltage appears on each pin, but on 1 pin you will see the CC communication and on the the other, you will see VCONN or 0V depending on the cable. For this explanation we will call one wire CC_Comm and the other Not_CC_COMM.

There is no easy way to determine whether CC1 and CC2 connects to CC_Comm or Not_CC_COMM. The cable orientation will determine which CC cable becomes CC_Comm or Not_CC_COMM(Read the PD primer for more info).

CC_COMM wire

For the pin that becomes CC_COMM, you should see 1.6V

Not_CC_COMM wire

For the pin that becomes Not_CC_COMM, the voltage will depend on the cable. If you have an eMark or active cable, the Not_CC_COMM wire will provide VCONN and will see anything between 3V and 5.5V (See table 4-5 in the Type C Spec)

If you don't have an eMark or active cable, you could see the Not_CC_COMMwire at the CC line pullup voltage or Ground.

I would recommend looking into the USB-C spec for more information.
