DP83TD510E: repeater mode and media conversion

Genius 17295 points
Part Number: DP83TD510E

Hello,

I have a question for DP83TD510E.

The datasheet says that this device supports both repeater mode and media conversion.
I feel both are basically the same concept, RMII back-to-back connection.
Is there any difference between them except for using T1L-T1L or using T1L-10Base-T.
If they are different, how to configure for the media conversion ?
I can find how to configure for repeater mode, but can’t find how to configure for media conversion.

Regards,
Oba

  • Hi Oba,

Your assumption is correct, basically they act the same way and it just varies with application stand point.

Repeater mode is used to extend cable reach, where as media converter is using to achieve copper interface on the other end, the strap that configures the CRS_DV pin of RMII interface to RX_DV is the key to achieve either of these operates.
