TUSB9261 analog power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9260

Hi,

Why are there analog power rails on the TUSB9260/1?  Do they power up analog circuitry within the device?

Main question is, how critical are the pi filters on the board? what if the rail is just a short trace between the digital and analog power pins? I would assume it's for the differential receiver and you want as little noise at the front end as possible so you can achieve the sensitivity you state.

I know Section 2.2 and 2.5 give a little insight to the power http://focus.ti.com/lit/an/slla315/slla315.pdf but a little more detail on the pi filters would be appreciated.

Cheers

  • Hello Calum,

You are correct, the separate ground planes are for noise filtering.

The capacitors to Vss and the pi filters are as the Implementation Guide states, recommendations, this recommendations are based on performance testing of the device.

The use of pi filters is merely a design decision based on the electrical test results, the characteristics of the signals to be transmitted and properties of the pi filters, also, this is a recommendation to get better performance. Let me see if I can find some literature regarding pi filters.

    Regards.
