DP83TD510E: Ethernet APL power supply

Part Number: DP83TD510E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM6411,

Hi there! We are developing an Industrial Automation solution for a major company in the Oil and Natural Gas industry. Our requirement is to collect data from certain in-field sensors, and transfer this data to the customer's SCADA system using Ethernet protocol.

As of now, we have in the process of designing a separate circuit board for 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, in which a 10/100/100 Mbps Ethernet PHY, magnetics isolation transformer and RJ45 connector are present, as is standard. Now, our client is asking about using Ethernet APL protocol.

From my understanding, Ethernet APL uses 10BASET1L specification, in which PoDL (Power over Data Line) is supported.

We are trying to understand whether the power, which is present in the two Ethernet APL wires, can be used to power various other components, like microprocessors, controllers, etc,? In short, can the power/data lines of Ethernet APL be used to source power for components like microcontrollers and various other ICs which we will be using in our project?

We are using the TI AM6411 microprocessor, and 10BASET1L Ethernet APL PHY TI DP83TD510E
