DS160PT801: Long distance for PCIe signals between CPU module and MXM board

Part Number: DS160PT801

Hi everyone,

We have designed a motherboard based on COM Express module and MXM GPU board.

The distance between those 2 components is quite long and I think I need a solution to get good PCIe signals in front of the degradation.

We have 16 differential pairs for RX and 16 differential pairs for TX.

The MXM boards we can plug are Gen 3 or Gen 4 PCIe.

My first question is: what do you suggest, one retimer or one redriver?

I read a few TI documents about the matter and I know the pros and cons of both ICs: budget, power...

Thanks for help
