Hi team,

Is this device easy to use as bridge between USB and UART without extra programing in customer side? The customers want to this device to plug and play without set-up.

1.Can the TUSB3410 be used directly without any software configuration with baud rate at 921600 bps?

2.If not, could you tell me how to set up the device as bridge between USB and UART with baud rate at 921600 bps? Need I write in EEPROM which means that I have to set again because of power off?

Hi Nan,

The TUSB3410 does not require any additional programming. The device is controlled through the Windows driver, and the baud rate may be changed through the Windows device manager or the software managing the UART connection.

However, it is very important to understand that we do not provide support for the OS driver, and we do not have one for Windows 11. There is also known bug when using it with a serial printer, so the application matters.

Could you let me know the OS that you intend to use and the application?

Hi Nicholaus,

In customers' drone, they use this bridge to update the software and read log from processor.

What is the OS you mentioned? Is that a kind of software on upper computer ?

Hi Nan,

The TUSB3410 is controlled by the Virtual COM Port driver shown here: TUSB3410 data sheet, product information and support | TI.com

By OS, I mean Operating System: Windows, Linux, or MacOS.

If the application is something like this

Drone <---------- USB Cable <------------ Host PC

Then the Host PC that is updating the software will need to use the VCP driver to communicate to the TUSB3410 via USB.

After have meeting, the customers want use processor to play the same role of PC which I mean that they want to use the MCU to control the TUSB3410 like baud rate. Does our device could meet their need? If yes, how to achieve it ? Can we provide the code for MCU to set up TUSB3410?

Hi NNA,

It is possible that the device would meet the customer need, but they will need to write some custom code on their MCU to replace the TUSB3410 OS driver.

The only support we can offer for helping create the MCU code is by providing some driver source code and the TUSB3410 firmware. I'm not sure if this would be easy or difficult for a software engineer to do.

Another potential option is to use a couple of the MCU's GPIO pins to implement a UART serial interface to directly update the Drone. If the GPIO pins on the MCU are all being used, then they could use a TI 2:1 MUX to switch between serial devices as described in this video: (129) How to select the right switch for UART applications - YouTube
