TUSB2961DEMO board running USB2.0

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9261DEMO, TUSB9261

Does TI have firmware that disables USB 3 portion?  I need the device to simply run as a USB2 to SATA converter.

With the old USB-SATA Converter, I can power up the system and the CD will auto-play.

With the TUSB9261DEMO board, the drive doesn’t even spin.

Is teher a setting or jumper I need to configure?

Cheers

Calum

  • To disable the USB3 you can just use a USB2 cable or plug into a USB2-only-capable host.

As for the drive not spinning up are you using the 9261DEMO board in bus powered or self powered mode?  In bus powered mode VBUS probably cannot source enough current for a DVD drive so I would try self powered mode.

The problem could also be that the Windows CE does not have support for a Blu Ray drive.  Does it work in the USB2 eHCI port on the mother board?

  • The SATA device is essentially powered off of an external source that’s capable of supplying more than 4A.  I tapped into the CE system yesterday and saw that the SATA device was recognized and that the tracks were available.  But when I try to play the tracks, I get an error message of “800701F”… some Windows Media Player error that I don’t get with an older obsolete device in place of the TUSB9261DEMO.

  • Calum,

Do you know if the old device is a Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) enabled device that supports digital rights management (DRM) or is it a simple mass storgae device?

I tried doing searches on that error code and was unable to find anything that seemed related - was there any sort of help button on the Error Dilaog box that could offer more insight?

  • Hello Calum,

Could you please try your test setup on a regular Windows XP or Windows 7 system? We would like to determine if this is a WinCE specific issue as we have tested several Blu-ray drives with our TUSB9261 evaluation module on those operating systems and it works without issues.

     Regards,

    Jorge.

  • The old device is the Sunplus SPIF301.  The SPIF301 automatically allowed audio CD to play on the optical drive.  Our Software Engineer wonders if the initiatiation USB3 protocols get in the way of USB 2 auto-detect…?

There was a typo in my previous email.  The error code is “8007001F”.  There were no help buttons available when the error appeared.
