DS90UB914A-Q1: Link adjustment questions (CRC/Parity Errors, AEQ, and Lock)

Part Number: DS90UB914A-Q1

Hi Team,

For a 913/914 pair I have a few question about reaction to errors/losing lock:

- If a link is building a lot of parity and/or CRC errors will the AEQ automatically readjust?

- If the AEQ does readjust will we always lose lock through the readjustment period?

- If we did lose lock to a 913, would the 913 registers be cleared/set back to default or would the remain as they were set (assuming 913 PDB stays high through the whole process)

Best,

David

  • Hello David,

    - If a link is building a lot of parity and/or CRC errors will the AEQ automatically readjust?

No, the 914A AEQ is based only on checking for stable LOCK. If LOCK is not present or not stable, AEQ will increment and check again for stable LOCK.

    - If the AEQ does readjust will we always lose lock through the readjustment period?

It is the other way around. i.e., losing LOCK will lead to AEQ readjustment.

    - If we did lose lock to a 913, would the 913 registers be cleared/set back to default or would the remain as they were set (assuming 913 PDB stays high through the whole process)

No, losing LOCK does not lead to 913A registers reset. If you are monitoring registers being cleared every time LOCK is lost, that may indicate a lose connection on the Cable/Connector/PoC.
