SN65HVD33: overshoot and undershoot requirement for driver input Pin5

Part Number: SN65HVD33

Hi Expert,

my customer is using SN65HVD33DR SOIC-14, for Pin 5, Digital input, the input signal will have overshoot and undershoot, the max and min will be 4.05V and -1.10V. our absolute electric parameter in the datasheet is

here is the input signal, do we have any limitation for input overshoot and undershoot? if no, any risk in this scenario?

here is the input signal, overshoot max is 4.05V, undershoot is -1.10V. high level is 3.26V, low level is 50mV.

  • Hi Chi,

The overshoot shouldn't be an issue as its bounded, with a decent sized margin, by the absolute maximum ratings.so I don't see damage occurring.

The minimum is not acceptable - there is internal protection that may break below -0.5V, which will cause the device to fail. The input pin (D, DE, /RE) must remain within its abs max values - the normal operation is fine.  Depending on the characteristics of the input signal you may be able to:

    1. Filter out the overshoot/undershoot with a filter - this depends on the overshoot/undershoot.

    2. Add external protection to keep the pin within its maximum ratings.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Best,
