TUSB9261-Q1: Programming or Configuration

Part Number: TUSB9261-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9261

Looking at your TUSB9261IPAPQ1 and you TUSB9261IPAPRQ1.  We are planning on designing a USB to SATA bridge device.  This will interface to 4 different size drives.

  • Are they drop in replacements for each other?
  • Are their drivers needed for these?
  • I see there is an EEPROM in the ref design, what is that for?  Do we need to program it?
  • Is there any other config that needs to be done?

Thanks

  • 1: yes

2: yes,  you need firmware tot make TUSB9221 work.

3: The TUSB9261 ROM contains boot code that executes after a global reset, which performs the initial
configuration required to load a firmware image from an attached SPI flash memory to local RAM

4: for USB to sata, you just need default firmware on TI.com.

  • Hi Brian,

For number 2. I asked if there are USB drivers needed for this device to operate not firmware.  Do USB drivers exisit, or does this just look like a jump drive to a PC?

For number 4, does this mean i dont need to attach a SPI flash part, it will just come up and run?

  • Bill:

For 2, there is no special USB drvier needed other than firmware, it's like USB hub .

For Q4: You do need SPI flash part to store firmware image .which the boot code can load it to local RAM.
