DP83867IS: Are Straps Mandatory, can we omit all strap resistors ?

Part Number: DP83867IS

HI Team,

we are in phase to design in the DP83867IS and have some questions regarding straps.

We would like not to use any straps.

We are using it in RGMII, with auto-negotiation ON at 1Gbps speed.

1) Is it ok to use PHY_ADDRES = 0x0 and don't use any strap resistor on RX_D0 and RX_D2?

PHY_ADD0=0, PHY_ADD1=0, PHY_ADD2=0, PHY_ADD3=0

2) Do we have to strap RX_CTRL pin to MODE3, or can we do this by MDIO interface after reset?

3) GPIO_0, GPIO_1, LED_2, LED_1

-> Can we change RGMII CLOCK SKEW TX and RX via registers or it is only possible via straps?

-> ANEG_SEL =0 default is ok for us to advertise ability of 10/100/1000

4) LED_0 strap, because we work in RGMII mode, and RGMII mode is default mode we don't have to use the LED-0 strap is this right?

And the Mirror Enable can be changed via registers?

Best Regards,

d.

  • Hi D.

You can omit all straps as each of these settings is available through register write.

    1. Use PHY address 0
    2. Please see the following note:
    3. RGMII clock skew can be changed in registers 0x0032 and 0x0086
    4. RGMII mode is default, mirror mode can be changed in register 0x0031

    Thanks,

    David
