TL16C552A: ST16C552IJ68 vs TL16C552AFN

Part Number: TL16C552A

Hello!

My team and I recently replaced an obsolete UART by Exar ST16C552IJ68 with your UART TL16C552AFN. That particular UART was chosen because of the immense similarity. We are now curious if your UART happened to be the same die as the obsolete one? This information would be very helpful when speaking with customers and to emphasize minimum changes.

Best,

Jewel

  • Hi Jewel,

We are now curious if your UART happened to be the same die as the obsolete one?

Since the device is made by Exar, it has been designed using their designers/intellectual property (IP). The die to our device had it's own designers/IP used so they would not actually be the same die.

This information would be very helpful when speaking with customers and to emphasize minimum changes.

From a datasheet perspective we would expect the devices to be quite similar. In practice, we generally see when people move from one UART device like this to one of ours, they may run into differences since neither Exar or TI test devices against each other.
