DP83822I: Is MDC/MDIO absolutely required?

Hello,

My customer has an question for DP83822.

If they uses DP83822 with the default setting and don't require any diagnosys, can MDC/MDIO be left unconneted?
Or is MDC/MDIO communication absolutely required?

    Hi Oba,

    As MDC/MDIO is a management interface, it is recommend to have that interface for register access if any configuration through registers is required, or for diagnosis to check the status of the PHY.

    However, the PHY can function as is with just bootstrap configuration without the MDC/MDIO interfaces. If any issue is noticed with the PHY it will be very hard to debug or find the root cause of the issue with out the MDC/ MDIO interface.

    Thanks for your reply.
    They have an additional question. 
    When not using MDC/MDIO interface, how to terminate these pins?

    For some reason, the customer wants to leave them just open or adding pull-dwon.
    Adding pull-up will require a board modification.
    Is leaving open or adding pull-down acceptable?
