TCAN1145-Q1: CiA601-4 Ver2.0.0 compliant and reaction by FBFF/FEFF regarding ISO11898-2:2016 Frame error counter mechanics

Part Number: TCAN1145-Q1

Hello Expert,

I have 2 questions for this device.
Would you answer following below questions?

  1. Is this device compliant with CiA601-4 Ver2.0.0?
  2. Will this device wake up by the reaction which is defined by ISO11898-2:2016 Frame error counter mechanics from FBFF/FEFF?
As far as I confirmed datasheet, this device don't count up error counter by CEFF but there isn't any description regarding FBFF and FEFF.

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you and best regards,
Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Kuramochi-san,

An engineer has been notified of your question and will respond end of business CST on 2/14/2023.

  • Hello Eric-san,

    Thank you for your swift.

Our customer want to know this answer until JST on Feb/15/2023 due to OEM request.
So it is really appreciated if you answer it by the end of Feb/14/2023 CST.

    Thank you and best regards,

  • Hi Kuramochi-san,

    1. No, this device is not compliant with the CIA601-4 CAN SIC standard. There is a version of this device that implements a CAN SIC driver currently in development.

    2. The CAN selective wake specification only defines wake-up behavior for classic CAN frame formats (CBFF & CEFF). The standard defines behavior for tolerating (ignoring) frames that are formatted as CAN FD frames (FBFF & FEFF), but it never defines using this format as the actual WUF. TCAN1145 supports both of these defined behaviors for waking on classic CAN frames and the ability to tolerate (ignore) CAN FD frames. This device cannot use a CAN FD formatted frame as a WUF as such behavior is not defined in the CAN specification.

  • Hi Eric-san,

I'll contact you by offline for discussing about new device.

Also, for the Q2. I'd like to make sure about it.
You said that FBFF and FEFF will be ignored.
Does it mean that it include it won't wake-up based on ISO11898-2:2016 Frame error counter mechanics?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Kazuki Kuramochi

  • Hi Kuramochi-san,

The TCAN1145 does implement the ISO11898-2:2016 frame error counter mechanism. This will count any CAN frame error and increment an internal counter to wake the device if too many errors occur. By default, any CAN frame that follows the CAN FD format (FBFF & FEFF) will be counted as frame errors. However, there is a configuration setting for TCAN1145 that will ignore CAN FD frames instead so they do not increment the error counter.

  • Hi Eric-san,

I understand that we can avoid waking up by FD format detection of frame error counter mechanism by register setting(0x44 bit7).

    Thank you and best regards,
