DS110DF111: How long of cable can I drive?

Part Number: DS110DF111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS125DF111

Hello,

Can you help me understand how to calculate how long of a cable DS110DF111 / DS125DF111 can drive? Are there any internal register settings to increase the output drive strength?

Would a buffer help complement this device in terms of driving longer cable lengths -> i.e. 20in – 24in?

Thanks,
Zack

  • Hi Zack,

There are a lot of factors in addition to length which affect the performance of a cable, so there isn't a simple calculation for cable length that can be driven by a retimer. Is there a specific cable you are considering using with DS110DF111 and do you have an s-parameter model for it? I can provide an IBIS model if you would like to simulate a link.

Channel register 0x2D[2:0] can be used to adjust output driver VOD strength.

If a cable's insertion loss is within 30dB then the retimer can compensate this by itself, but a buffer with some equalization capability can be helpful for cables with greater insertion loss.

  • Hi Lucas,

Thanks for the feedback. I will work to confirm the exact cable and if I can get an S-parameter model. Can you provide the IBIS model? That might be useful.

    Thanks,
    Zack

  • Hi Zack,

I sent you an email regarding the IBIS model.
