SN65DP159: No HDMI output signal when connecting differents video input sources than DP

Part Number: SN65DP159
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS181, TMDS171, TDP0604

Hi all,

We have developed a communications device using the SN65DP159RGZR module as an HDMI redriver. When connecting directly from a DP video source via a DP-DP cable, we correctly observe video signal image through the HDMI output.

We are having problems when we try to connect a miniDP, USB-C or HDMI video source through miniDP-DP, USB-C-DP or HDMI-DP converter cables. When making this connections we do not see HDMI video signal at the output. We have also verified that these converters do work with PC or video sources of that type.

Could you please let us know what is the cause of this problem? Is it possible that this module does not support video to DP conversions?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Julio.

DP159 is a DP++ (AC-coupled input) to HDMI level shifter. For mini-DP or USB Type-C, you would need a DP to HDMI active protocol converter. For HDMI, which is a DC-coupled input, you will have to use an external termination network since DP159 is an AC-coupled input. Or you can use TMDS171, TMDS181, or TDP0604.

    Thanks
