AM26LV31E: How ESD is improved from AM26LV31C?

Part Number: AM26LV31E

Hi team,

My customer is considering to move from AM26LV31C to AM26LV31E due to the delivery issue.

Could you please help me to address the questions below?

  1. In the datasheet revision in 2008 (SLLS848A), AM26LV31E’s ESD rating (HBM) was 15kV.

In the datasheet revision in 2016 (SLLS848B), it is update as follows:

Bus pins 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, and 14:±15000V

All pins except 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, and 14:±2000

Except for bus pins, the specification is worse than AM26LV31C even though AM26LV31E is supposed to have higher ESD performance.

Why pins other than bus pins have worse performance compared to AM26LV31C?

  1. Could you please let me know how the ESD protection performance improved specifically? It would be helpful if you show the difference on functional block diagram or schematic.

Best regards,

Itoh

  • HI Itoh,

    1. The first specifications in the initial datasheet does no specify pins -  the HBM on the first one is referring to the bus pins (as that is where the ESD protection is focused); while this device also has protection spec'd for all pins. It also includes a CDM specification.

    2. The blocks are the same - ESD protection exists in the other device - it isn't specified the level of protection on the non-E device on all pins.

  • Hi Parker-san,

    Thank you for your response.

About #1, what is the ESD raing of the non-bus pins of non-E version?

About #2, could you please let me know why the ESD performance of E version is better than non-E version while the block is same?

Does it have more robust ESD diode on bus pins?

    Regards,

    Itoh

  • Hi Itoh-san,

    1. It isn't specified.

    2. From an architecture view - ESD protection is basically an internal diode - the diode characteristics could be different and still have the same block diagram. Unless you are looking t EFT protection - which uses an ESD clamp - most other ESD designs are very similar in architecture - the cell has differences.

Bus pins seem to be rated to the same levels on both devices - the benefit of the "E" version is that you also have a CDM spec - which isn't specified in the non-E version.

Essentially your customer isn't going to see a drop in performance by switching - it should be at the same level or better.

  • Hi Parker-san,

I guess you are misunderstanding something.

Please double check the both non-E and E version's datasheet.

    non-E version (SLLS201H):

    E version (SLLS848B):

E version defintely has better ESD spec.

Again, does E version has the ESD cell which is better than one in non-E version?

    Regards,

    Itoh

  • Itoh,

E version is the enhanced version - they should have a better cell integrated. Using the "E" version in place of the of the non-E version isn't going to negatively impact system.

    Best,

    Parker
