hi,

as titled, what are potential reasons for link down:

1: I want to confirm, will every time reset result in a link down?

2. when write " ifconfig eth0 down", is it reasonable to do that?

3. what else?

    Hi Yuan,

    Could you give me more background on what issue you are facing? I am not sure if I understand your problem completely. 

    1. Hard reset and soft reset will result in link down on the PHY side (writing 0x001F register to 8000 or 4000)

    2. "ifconfig enth0 down" dropping link by the MAC

    Both ways should result in a link down

    I know this two reason can result in link down, and I want to know more potential reasons.

    do we have a kind of summary? car oem is evaluating phy and want to that research

    Hi Yuan,

    There are alot of reason will result in a link down such as auto negotiation are not complete, not able to detect the link partner, and etc...

    May I ask what is the current issue that car oem is facing?
