TCAN1044-Q1: Just use the can physical layer

Hi, Team

Hope you are doing well!

Through TCAN1044-Q1 datasheet, I learned that TCAN1044-Q1 can support up to 8M transmission rate.

I want to know that can this rate only be achieved using the particular CAN protocol?

If my customer uses CAN's physical layer to transmit other protocols, can it reach such a high transmission rate?

    Hi Jeff,

    The max data rate for this device was evaluated using both active CAN FD frames following the ISO 11898-1 CAN protocol standard as well as a simple square wave input on TXD. For this reason, I think it is safe to assume that other protocols could reach this same speed without being limited by the transceiver characteristics. 

    Keep in mind that simple transceivers like this are not protocol aware so the rating is mostly related to the max square wave frequency that can be transmitted through it. The CAN protocol itself has a lot of other considerations to deal with that we include in our evaluation, but these may not necessary apply to other protocols.
