TUSB9261: Do I need to write the firmware on this device?

Hi team,

Does the customer need to write the firmware on TUSB9261 after implementing TUSB9261 on the board?

I don't know if this device works after implementing it on the board and turn the power on, or this device works after writing the firmware on TUSB9261.

Hi Yamamoto-san,

The TUSB9261 firmware is stored on the SPI flash memory attached to the TUSB9261. You may use the FlashBurner software to change the firmware if needed.

Thank you for your reply. My customer plans to use external SPI flash memory which is MX25L6433FM2I-08G from MACRONIX. In this case, my customer needs to write the firmware on it by TUSB926x FlashBurner Utility. Is this understanding correct?

Because my customer needs to prepare some equipments in manufacturing process for mass production.

Hi Yamamoto-san,

The customer can either program the external flash memory directly through SPI with production software, or they may use the TUSB926x FlashBurner software to program the SPI flash memory through USB.

The FlashBurner software works by communicating via USB to the TUSB9261, and the TUSB9261 responds by programming the SPI flash memory that it is attached to. Detailed instructions about how this happens are given in TUSB9260 Flash Burner - User Guide (Rev. D) (ti.com).
