TI Precession Labs I2C clarifications Required

Dear Team,

Below image is from TI I2C training.

It says that Ultra-fast mode supports write only and omits some standard I2C feature.

This does not say why it is supporting only write and what are the features it is omitting from standard I2C and why it omits those features.

May I know why?

The second thing is in High speed mode I2C requires active pull up.

Can some one please help me to understand active pullup and the devices used for the same.

Hey Hari,

We currently do not support any I2C UfM devices so it I can not give you an accurate answer on this. Where was this I2C training found?

I2C communication in general (throughout all its modes) only has an open drain/ collector driver that can pull low. To propagate a logic "HIGH", an active pull up resistor is required.

Ultra-fast mode is unidirectional and uses push/pull signals. It is more similar to SPI than to normal I²C. See Ultra Fast Mode UFm.

Rising edges generated by pull-up resistors are slow. High-speed mode requires the master to generate rising edges with a current source. See High Speed Mode.
