SN65HVD72: Is this top marking authentic of counterfeit?

Part Number: SN65HVD72

A recent counterfeit test report shows a very amateurish top marking on a batch of SN65HVD72

The TI logo is very vague in its outline, and all characters start with a pronounced white dot.

The Rear of the chip is not like any of the 3 other rear images that TI have agreed is one of theirs in a previous forum thread.

Was this part manufactured by TI or is it counterfeit?

Thanks,

MC

  • Also, these are images of the die after decapsulation - the die features "GM10" as the identifier:

  • Hi Marc,

You may want to go over to our anti-counterfeit page - https://www.ti.com/support-quality/quality-policies-procedures/anti-counterfeit.html - for more information. I do have reason to believe this device may be counterfeit, but the folks over in our anti-counterfeit department should be able to better assist in this manner and give more concrete answers.

  • Hi Parker,

Thanks for your quick reply - much appreciated!   This device was purchased on the grey market in the UK from a reputable supplier - this does of course not guarantee a reputable source beyond that.

I have visited the TI anti-counterfeit page to which you linked, though I cannot pursue this as this device is from the grey market and I am therefore not in a position to provide all of the requested documentation:

    • High Quality Pictures of the TI 2D bar code labels
    • Copies/Pictures of Shipping documents, i.e. packing slip showing the origin of devices to TI.

May I ask, what gave you reason to believe that this device may be counterfeit?

We are in the meantime comparing this device's die topology with a "golden sample" purchased direct from TI.com, where there is limited supply.

    Best regards,

    MC

  • Hi MC,

I can't really give any more information - if you can't provide all the documentation for our anti-counterfeit team there isn't anything else I can do.
