DC_Analysis_query_TCA9803DGK

Hi TI Team,

We are using this TCA9803DGK IC in our design and we need the input current details for the SDA/SCL pin of this IC.

  • Mari,

Calculating the current in/out on the A-side and B-side will vary.

B-side is much simpler to understand since the current when driving a LOW signal from A-to-B side will be the ~Ics current. Since you are using the 9803, this is around 3.3mA of driving force. When the signal is HIGH (i.e. A-side is idle, so B-side is idle, ICS current source off) then the current out of the B-side should be close to the input leakage current specified in the datasheet for the SDAB and SCLB pins, which is +/- 10uA.

When a I2C device is driving LOW on the A-side, the current in to the pin will be dependent on the drive strength of the I2C device and the pull-up resistance on the SDAA/SCLA bus. Please see this app note on how to calculate the value of this resistance here. When the bus is idle (B-side is idle, therefore a HIGH is propagated from B-side to A-side), then the current should be close to the input leakage current spec in the datasheet which is again typical value of +/- 10uA.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

    Regards,

    Tyler
