HD3SS2522: Mated device enumerates as USB 2.0

Part Number: HD3SS2522
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS3220

Good afternoon.

We are using an HD3SS2522 in our design downstream of an TUSB8028B hub. The other port of the hub connects to a type-A connector and USB 3 devices mated into this connector enumerate correctly at USB3 speeds. Devices attached to the USB C connector through the HD3S22522 enumerate only at USB 2.x speeds.

A review of our design and comparison with the evaluation board schematic revealed a problem in that we neglected to add power switches controlled by the VCTRL1 and VCTRL2 ports to supply 5V to the unused CC1 or CC2 pin on the USB C connector. We have also neglected the pull-up resistors on the CC1/CC2 signals as we misinterpreted the datasheet for the HD3SS2522 thinking that they were integrated.

Would this deficiencies explain the USB 2.0 behavior that we're experiencing or is it likely that there are other deficiencies with our design?

Best Regards,
