TUSB212-Q1: Placement location and Equalization settings

Hi ,

We are using TI USB2 Redriver in our design. We have placed USB2 Redriver next to USB port controller(PI5USB2546HZHEX) in our main board.

When we check SI results in actual boards, we observed that , we did not see much improvement with Redriver . We are passing Eye margin with & without redriver in our design.

We would like to understand Why we did not observer much improvement with Redriver?
Is our redriver placement length from SOC is optimum? or need to place in some other location based on the length given?
Attached our current design Redriver snippet, is there any EQ setting needs to be fine tuned with current placement location to get any improvement?

Hi Ramesh,

USB redriver placement recommendation is to place as close to the USB connector as possible.

After review the schematic, I was wondering about the DC boost PU and PD parameters. Both are populated or these are not installed that indicates mid DC level? Please refer to below table.

If you have any questions, please share the eye margin for the clarification.

Yes, DC Boost PU and PD are DNI in our design. Is there any recommendation based on our placement?

Hi Ramesh,

I was wondering if you could potentially switch to the TUSB216I, as it an update device of the TUSB212 with P2P compatible and could boost performance even more. For your reference, you can find a datasheet and guide to replacing a TUSB212 if needed. (TUSB216I)

Hi Josh,

We will check for TUSB216I. But Is our current placement correct? Or does Redriver helps if we keep it in IO Board instead of main board(refer topology diagram).

Any EQ setting changes are needed for the current placement location with TUSB212 . We want to test in our current board setup to see any improvement with TUSB212 Redriver

Hi Josh,

I understand, that TUSB216I is an updated version of TUSB212. In our current setup, we have TUSB212 and we have DC Boost set to mid level and AC Boost to Level2. Attached our measurement Eye Diagram with & without Redriver.

Can you please suggest best EQ setting based on Eye measurement data.

Hi Ramesh,

Sorry, we couldn't suggest the setting since the compliance would be be different depending on the system and design.

I would recommend you should follow the transition guide as below to measure eye diagram with the driver.
