TCAN1042DEVM: evaluation software

Part Number: TCAN1042DEVM

Dear TI Support,

I have two question about this TCAN1042DEVM,

1. If I want to test a start topology can bus with 6 nodes. each one with less than 20" wire. is there a software provided by TI that can serve is a Master node?

2. any suggestion to build a platform to evaluate the reliability of the 6 nodes start topology can bus.

thank you,

David

  • David,

Thanks for bringing this to E2E.

    1. CAN communication protocol allows for any node to be a commander (master) in the sense that no one node controls the entirety of the bus, and arbitration determines priority and thus who commands the bus for every frame sent. I think what you're asking is if we have any controller software, which we do not. Along with software, you'd need some kind of controller (either an MCU or dedicated CAN controller) to drive the communication to the transceiver and onto the CAN bus. Vector has tools and software available that a lot of our customers use to verify CAN communication on their CAN buses.

    2. Aside from just building up the bus and using something from Vector like CANoe, there are some simulation software options, but these are very expensive and I'm not sure how readily available they are if you're not a semiconductor manufacturer.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

    Eric Hackett
