DP83825I: DP83825I fake IC, could you help to check it ?

Part Number: DP83825I

Hi e2e

We made production of prototypes our device (based on Sitara CPU) with PHY DP83825IRMQR, for first batch (100pcs) we don't have any problem, for second batch (100pcs) all PHY don't work corettly. Photo below show the real view of IC, we don't change the PCB loyaout or project is the same for both batches.

Could you help to check or recognize the fake of your IC product regarding for DP83825IRMQR ?

  • Hi Damina,

May I asked how did you know the IC is "fake" or how does the PHY is not working? Just want to make sure it is not functional issue before we conclude it is "fake".

May I also ask where did you get the ICs?

  • Hi Lin,

I'm not sure they are, this is my suspicion so I ask how to confirm that fact, if your want I can sent this parts to TI for evaluation.

For all batches of PCB the project is the same.

I desoldered the PHY and solder again but without any result, I don't found any short junctions.

In next step I desoldered PHY from working PCB (batch from China EMS) and soldered on not working PCB (EMS Tailand) –> after that the not working PCB (from EMS Tailand) start working properly.

I don't have any details from where the EMS brought parts.

For not working PHY's what I discovered for now:

    1. No-carrier on Ethernet,
    2. Some PHYs have internally reset pin damaged,
    3. The marking of IC is different, the distance from edges IC for marking,

  • Hi Damina,

Thank you for sharing the information. If possible, Could you check the following for the "fake" PHY:

    • Can you probe the pin "50MHzOut/LED2" to see rather the pin is sending out the 50MHz on RMII master mode?
    • Is MDC/MDIO toggling for the "fake" PHY?
    • How did you know the internal reset pin is damaged?
