TCA9539-Q1: How to Configure GPIO as output

Hi Team,

The datasheet mentioned that I/O pins are configured as Input at power on but it does not specify how to configure them as output.

can you guide me how to configure these pins as output? what do I have to change/write in the control register?

Hey Marvin,

To write the GPIO ports as outputs, we need to write to the control register by writing the specified command byte. For example, writing 0x02 to the control register will allow us to enable Port 0 as outputs.

Hi Jack,

Thank you. Just to clarify, writing to the control register will configure the entire port as an output correct? and it is not possible to individually configure each pin on a port as either input or output (example: P00 - Input, P01 - output)

Each bit in the output port registers corresponds to one pin. All sixteen I/O pins are completely independent.

Writing 0x02 (= 00000010) to the configuration port 0 register configures P01 as input and P00, P02..P07 as output.
