TPD2E009: Need confirmation for the usage of this part TPD2E009DRTR.

Part Number: TPD2E009
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD4E1U06,

Hi Team,

We are planning to use the TPD2E009DRTR part in our schematics for the ESD Protection. We are using this part with the 1Gphy IC i.e., DP83867IRRGZR Connecting to the RJ-45 Connector. I had attached the schematic image for the better understanding of the use case.

Kindly share your valuable feedback with us.

Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Teja,

Below is how we recommend connecting ESD devices for ethenet ESD protection between the PHY and the magnetics.

For tips on optimizing your layout for ESD protection, please see our ESD packaging and layout guide.

  • Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for your response. In the above case which you had mentioned to use TPD4E1U06 the concern is Regarding the differential properties of the signals. for the RJ-45 signals Dp and Dn we need to match the Impedance of 100ohm for the RJ-45 signals. If we are using the TPD4E1U06 part the differentiality of these signals is not done, please refer the Figure - 1 attached below. Due to this Mismatch of the differentiality the SI analysis is getting failed the impedance of 100 ohms is not encountered.

For this reason we are planning to use TPD2E009DRTR part, which will be helpful in following the differential properties of the signals. please find the attached figure - 2.

Kindly let us know whether we can use the part TPD2E009DRTR for the better differential properties, as in the applications also it is mentioned as Ethernet.

    Thanks and regards,

    - Teja

  • Hi Teja,

Understood you need to match the impedance of the traces closely, the figure was just an example for the wiring connection. You can certainly use TPD2E009 in that same configuration as figure 2 for ethernet ESD protection.

    Sebastian
