TUSB551: USB3 redriver placement

Part Number: TUSB551

Hi Expert,

For the USB3 redriver, we put the redriver near the connector on TX path, do we need to place the redrvier near the SoC side for RX path? Or it's ok to put the TX and RX redriver near to connector?

Do we have pre-channel/ post channel length for customer reference?

  • Hi Far,

Please refer to the FAQ E2E thread (Link) regarding your question.

    Best,

  • Hi Josh,

According the layout guidelines suggest redriver should be placed close to the connector, it mean both TX and RX redriver need to close to the connector?

My customer encounter the layout limit on connector side, they want to put the RX redriver on SoC side, is it OK to put the single channel redriver on SoC side.

  • Hi Far,

Yes. It would be desirable to place as close as possible to the connector.

The placement of TUSB551 is dependent upon the insertion loss of the channel. If the customer knows the insertion loss characteristics of their PCB at 5Gbps then they can estimate where TUSB551 should be placed. In the meantime, please refer to the thread I share above.

    Best,

    Josh
