DS560DF810: Support for 1000BASE-KR, 10GBASE-KR, and 25GBASE-KR

Part Number: DS560DF810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS250DF810, DS280MB810

Hello TI technical personnel,

Does the DS560DF810 support backplane Ethernet KR operation for all rates 1000BASE-KR and above?

Also, I am interested in full datasheets for the DS560DF810 and all footprint compatible retimers and redrivers. Thank you.

Regards,

-Mark

  • Hi Mark,

There are two key "features" in -KR that differentiate it from typical 1/10/25 GbE signaling.  These are link training and auto negotiation.  Dynamic link training is not supported on our retimers since our retimers have a non-linear signal chain.  Our retimers can still be used in -KR applications if link training is disabled.  Auto-negotiation is supported by our retimers by enabling CDR bypass when CDR is not locked.  Something to note on our DS560DF810 is that this analog CDR bypass is not supported in crosspoint modes, so AN would not be supported in crosspoint mode on this device. This is not an issue with 25G retimers such as DS250DF810.  Also, since 1000Base-KR is outside of the CDR lock range of the DS560DF810, crosspoint mode would not be supported with 1.25 Gbps data.

In general, DS560DF810 is suitable for 1, 10, 25, and 50 GbE, but I wanted to highlight some of the nuance with -KR.  In general, this nuance can be avoided if AN and LT are disabled.

The DS560DF810 is footprint compatible with 8-channel 25/28G retimers/redrivers such as DS250DF810 and DS280MB810. However, it has different power supply requirements, so it is not a drop in replacement.

    Thanks,

    Drew
