TPD8S300A: Can I use SBU1/SBU2 OVP pins to protect another set of CC pins?

Part Number: TPD8S300A

Hi.

We have an USB C PD dock application which have two USB C ports (one connected to the charger).

CC1/CC2 have been used for one port, can we use  SBU1/SBU2 to protect another port's CC pin if Vconn is not used?

If SBU1/SBU2 can be used to protect CC pins, can we connect RPD_G1/RPD_G2 to SBU1/SBU2 to provide dead battery functionality?

Regards

Steven.

  • Hi Steven,

    Thank you for reaching out!

You may use SBUx to protect CCx, but you cannot achieve dead battery functionality if you connect  RPD_G1/RPD_G2 to SBU1/SBU2. This is because there are FETs in series with Rd (see image below).

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Best Regards,

    Aya
