The IO-EXPANDER-EVM works with the TCA9535. The PCA9535 is pin compatible.

I wanted to see if there were any functional/spec differences that prevent PCA9535 from being used on the IO EXPANDER EVM.

Michael,

IO-EXPANDER-EVM can be used with the PCA devices as well. The PCA devices are an older process technology. The TCA9535 has a wider operating voltage than the PCA9535, but otherwise they serve the same functions.
