TCA9406: VCCA <= VCCB spec detail

Hi team,

TCA9406 datasheet specifies that "VCCA must be less than or equal to VCCB" in recommended operating conditions.

Is this applicable to only communication performance?

Or, even not in communication, does it have potential issue like leakage current when it is violated?

This device is the same as the TXS0102. See the application note Biasing Requirements for TXS, TXB, and LSF Auto-Bidirectional Translators; there is a diode between the supplies.

Hi Clemens-san,

The datasheet mentions that "The sequencing of each power supply will not damage the device during the power up operation, so either power supply can be ramped up first.".

Does the leakage matter even when power up?

The leakage current does not harm the device itself. It might or might not affect the rest of the circuit.

Hi Itoh,

TCA9406 does not care which supply is ramped up first during power transient. The sequence of power supply ramp would not damage the device unless the supply voltage is outside the absolute maximum conditions of the device.

The leakage may not matter to the TCA9406 device, but it might affect other devices connected in the system as per Clemens' comment.
