Bridge Signal Conditioner IC-Bridge Strain gauge sensor- Looking for a best alternate part

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1263, PGA300, PGA305

 Hello team,

I am looking to replace 1B32 with a similar analog device with analog Vout and differential excitation of 10V range and other wide range of important parameters. 1B32 is a Bridge transducer Signal Conditioner IC from analog devices. Please give me more insight on this.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Naveen,

The excitation voltage is the thing that is giving some trouble. I find the industry has scaled down their bridge voltage to 5V or below. In addition, I can't really find anything from TI that offers analog in and analog out. A lot of our devices have an ADC integrated, or more accurately, the ADC has IDACs integrated to help with bridge excitation. This would be analog in, and then digital out. For example, something like ADS1263 is popular for resistive bridges.

The PGA300 might work but I wouldn't say the PGA300 is very good for a wide range of applications. It really only does pressure (with temperature) measurements well enough. The ADI device seems to be more generic.

If you've never played around with our block diagrams, you should see if you can find your application or type of circuit, click on the analog front end, and then scroll through the amplifiers or ADCs they have listed: https://www.ti.com/solution/pressure-transmitter?variantid=14300&subsystemid=16673

  • Hello Cole,

I came across PA300 series already before posting the question and thought something else could be better. Now its more clear to me thank you very much for your clarification and quick response. Is there any reference design/ documents of PA300 series specifically for pressure application excluding the references available on TI website?

    Best Regards,

    Naveen

  • Hi Naveen,

Sure, check out this TI Reference Design: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00788 - Industrial Current-Output Pressure Sensor Transmitter, IEC61000-4 Tested Reference Design

I'd recommend you check out the PGA305 too. It has a bit higher resolution ADC and I2C protocol. I'm not sure what your application needs but I thought I'd let you know you have options.

    Best,

    -Cole
