TUSB216EVM: how to let EVM enter high speed mode when testing eye diagram

For TUSB216Q EVM, plug flash stick can enter high speed mode( CD: high, ENA_ HS: high), but when test host mode eye diagram, After click execute, EVM will enter full speed mode (CD:High，ENA_HS:Low) instead of high speed mode , how to let EVM enter high speed mode when testing eye diagram?

I follow the application note.

1, If I don't use u-disk, CD_P3 and ENA_HS_P3 are low level(LED are OFF).

Open xHCI Electrical Test Tool as before. After chick "EXECUTE", DN has pluses, ENA_HS_P3 has pluses too(most low level).

Note: blue wave is ENA_HS_P3 or CD_P3.

CD_P3 also has pluses(most low level), so I think TUSB216EVM doesn't run into any valid mode.

2, In the datasheet of TUSB216, Pin 1 and Pin 2 connect to Host or hub. But in the application note, Pin 7 and Pin 8 connect to PC as Host Mode. Which is better?

3, If I use u-disk, CD_P3 and ENA_HS_P3 are High level.

After chick "EXECUTE", then remove u-disk, DN has pluses, ENA_HS_P3 has pluses too(most low level).

But CD_P3 has pluses(most high level), as show below.

2. There isn't any difference even if the host is connected to Pin1 and Pin2 or Pin 7 and Pin 8.

Could you share your test set up diagram or photo? Could you confirm that you tested with USB-IF test fixture?

It is the right status of the channel for high-speed mode. If you want to see high-speed mode during testing, the CD pin should be LOW and ENA_HS pin should be HIGH as below (High-speed downstream port electrical test).

I was wondering if you followed the below steps to test the status of the channel and the eye diagram. Note that if you change the settings, you must stop sending TEST_PACKET and then reset it.

Stop TEST_PACKET
Enumerate Bus
Change settings on EVM
Reset on EVM
Execute TEST_PACKET

What should I do if I want to test eye diagram?

Work Mode 1:

Is step 2 necessary？ I find that whether I press or not, EVM's LED are OFF.

I can't enter into "High-speed downstream port electrical test" Mode.

Do you have a more detailed operation?

Hi Gu,

It shows that you selected port 2 on Host Port Control.

Did you check if port 2 was detected on the PC for high-speed? you can check the port by the USB device tree viewer when connecting the high-speed USB flash drive to the PC. If TEST_PACKET is sent to the wrong port, the High-speed downstream port electrical test mode wouldn't be obviously shown on the scope.

Hi Gu,

I tested with your setup here, and I was able to see the compensation and High-speed downstream port electrical test mode with the test procedure and the steps I mentioned. Could you please check one by one if the cable to PC, USB-IF Test fixture, or SMA cable is working properly?

Hi Gu,

The zip file includes the following:

SetUpWProbe.jpeg – This image shows the set-up of the TUSB216EVM including cables, EVM USB to SMA breakout board, and oscilloscope probes (reading CD and ENA_HS).

Enumeration.MOV – This video demonstrates the successful enumeration and the resulting output displayed on the scope.
TestMode.MOV – This video demonstrates that when the user hits “EXECUTE”, the device enters test mode data, and the data is successfully displayed on the scope.

HSMode.MOV – This video demonstrates that CD moves from low to high and ENA_HS remains high when the drive is plugged into the EVM (aka device moves from test mode to HS mode).

CD_ENpinsHS.jpeg – This image shows the status of the CD and ENA_HS pins when the device is in high speed mode (CD and ENA_HS are both high).
