SN65LVPE501: Using two SN65LVPE501 on a PCIe Gen 2 x2 interface

I'm interested in using two SN65LVPE501 devices on a PCIe Gen2 x2 interface.  Is there any reason not to do this?  From a lane routing perspective, using these two ICs offers a cleaner route than using a single x4 device such as the DS160PR140 which has all of the PCIe lane inputs on one side of the IC and all of the PCIe lane outputs on the other.  The single x4 interface IC cause two of the lanes to be routed around to the far side of the IC.  Using two SN65LVPE501 allows for a more straight-through routing for all of the lanes.

    Thanks for this information and I will definitely research the ICs you suggested above.

    My initial question is more about circuit topology or configuration.  I see three potential configurations for this type of circuit of adding a PCIe Redriver between the Root Complex and the Endpoint for a PCIe Gen x2 interface.

    I am trying to find out if there's an advantage to one of the others.  I'm leaning towards configuration 1 because it allows straight through routing and the ICs are efficient (there are no unused drivers).  But I'd like to know if there's a configuration that TI recommends and, more importantly, the reasons behind that recommendation.

    I think configuration 1 or 2 is the way to go. Whether 1 or 2 depends on the End Point/CPU incoming RX or TX signals layout. If TX and RX are interleaved, then configuration 1 but if all RX or TX all are together then configuration 2. Also, please note DS160PR410 was introduced much later than these other parts and thus it has a better linearity and performance.

    Thanks for this information.

    In this case, I'm interested in using the DS80PCI102 for this design.  You provided the following IBIS-AMI model (TI_DS80PCIxxx_IBIS_AMI_v5.zip) to me earlier today when I requested the model for the SN65LVPE501.  From the file's name, it appears that the model you provided applies to the DS80PCI102.  Would you please confirm that.

    After researching the parts you mentioned and researching on TI’s website, now I’m leaning towards using TI’s DS125BR111.  This seems like a newer part than the DS80PCI102 and I’m guessing will have better linearity and performance as you mentioned for the DS160PR410.  Is there a different TI 1-Lane PCIe Redriver you would recommend?
