Hi team,
Could you please kindly help to confirm if TCAN1044A-Q1 NC pin could connect to 3.3V/1.8V? Since customer want to do a compatible design between TCAN1044A-Q1 and TCAN1044AV-Q1. Thanks a lot for your support to confirm.
Best regards
Jie

Hi Jie,
Unfortunately, I do not think you will be able to make a compatible design. The NC pin of the TCAN1044A-Q1 can connect to 3.3 V or 1.8 V since it is not internally connected in the device however there will be issues with the logic-level references. Since the TCAN1044A-Q1 does not use VIO, logic-level pins such as TXD, RXD, and STB will be referenced to VCC. VCC must be connect to a 5-V supply and not a 3.3-V or 1.8-V supply. Therefore, logic-level pins such as TXD, RXD, and STB will not be able to communicate properly with other devices expecting a 3.3-V or 1.8-V signal.
Is the customer using a TCAN1044 with other devices expecting a 3.3-V or 1.8-V logic-level from it? If so, you will need to use the TCAN1044AV-Q1 or use the TCAN1044A-Q1 with a logic-level shifter which may be more expensive.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Respectfully,
Brandon Young
