DP83869HM: PCN of PHYIDR2 Register (address = 0x3) value is changing from 0xA0F1 to 0xA0F3.

Part Number: DP83869HM

Hi Team:

Nice to talk with you, this is Allen ,SC AA FAE for Comba.

as I know that the DIE of DP83869HM may have some change ,so customer are now receiving the first new PCN production shipments.

Due to customer R&D changes or omission of PCN, they may miss the modification of the PHYIDR2 Register (address = 0x3) value is changing from 0xA0F1 to 0xA0F3.

So customer is currently suffering by the external SW changing in numerous products and can not meet the end customer Shipping Plan.

That`s what i want to ask whether we can write the PHYIDR2 remain to 0xA0F1 on customer side , so customer can keep their SW not changing in this urgent time.

 tks again for your confirmation.

  • Hi Allen,

For older silicon the driver should contain PHYIDR2 as 0xA0F1 and if customer is using the newer silicon, the driver should be programmed with PHYIDR2 - 0xA0F3. If not the PHy will not be identified by the driver.

If customer wants to use a common driver for both older silicon and newer silicon, I would recommend to add an OR functionality in the driver to recognize both A0F1 and A0F3.

  • Hi Rahul:

     Tks for your comments.

For the general purpose ,i think it is good to add an OR functionality in the driver.

But in this time, there are so many kinds of production need customer to change the driver.

So is there a way we can change the 0xA0F1 ID into new silicon version on customer side?

Meanwhile, the customer has some stock available but doesn't know which marks represent what, can you help to explain the meaning of below red mark area?

  • Hi Allen,

The Rev ID cannot be changed on the silicon, it is fixed. It can only be changed in the driver.

Can customer read Register 3h of both PHYs ?

    Regards,
    Rahul
