DS16F95QML-SP: Damage after lead forming

Part Number: DS16F95QML-SP

Hi,

Could you guide for lead forming or share the experience about damage after lead forming?

There is damage issue in 1u/15u as below picture

Customer guess that it is due to damage by lead forming.

Customer had similar issue 2 more times on different lot.

Please refer below picture and guide it.

Thanks.

  • Hi David,

When did this damage occur - what was user doing  when part experienced damage ?

  • Hi David,

I believe that you are saying that the customer damaged the unit while doing lead form.  Is that correct?

We would not be able to troubleshoot the customer's procedures.

Note that this is an industry standard package.  There are companies that provide trim and form services for these industry standard packages.  Two are Fancort and Micross (formally Corfin).  TI has used tooling from Corin to do trim and form on this particular package type.

  • Hi Kirby,

Do you have recommend specification for lead forming of this part?

Or Can you provide the forming specification when we use the trim and form services of the companies, such as Fancort and Micross?

We have implemented the lead forming as below specification, using our lead forming device. And the same issue occurs three times for different lots.

This is outstanding issue for us because, you know, this part is standard one having SMD no. of 5962F8961501VHA. Therefore, the reliability of this part has been verified through screening, LAT/QCI or qualification test. We guess there is no reason for the part to be damaged, except our lead forming process.

We are curious if our lead forming specification is appropriate for this part.

  • Hi Yuchul,

Since this is an industry standard package if you contact the companies that Kirby mentioned they should know the proper methodology for trim/form services of this device.
