DP83TC812S-Q1: DP83TC812-Q1 sending wake up request or pulse in slave mode in autonomous boot strapping

Part Number: DP83TC812S-Q1

I want to use DP83TC812-Q1 IC for connected car application in zonal gateway ECU. I want to wake up my Switch master phy (Other vendor device) from Zonal gateway slave phy (DP83TC812-Q1). Our query is, will slave phy (DP83TC812-Q1) in autonomous mode send wake up pulse to master on link automatically?

For slave what is difference between booting up with managed mode and autonomous mode?

  • Hi Manoj,

Here is how the DP83TC812 behavior is

    Master Mode Managed:

    • PHY doesn't transmit Wake Up Pulse (WUP) automatically after waking from sleep as PHY wakes up into Standby mode
    • PHY transmits WUP only after programming register to move the PHY to Normal Mode

    Slave Mode Managed:

    • PHY doesn't transmit Wake Up Pulse (WUP) automatically after waking from sleep as PHY wakes up into Standby mode
    • PHY transmits WUP only after programming register to move the PHY to Normal Mode

    Master Mode Autonomous:

    • PHY transmits WUP after the wake-up automatically.
    • After transmitting WUP for 1ms, PHY will start sending link training pulses.

    Slave Mode Autonomous:

    • PHY transmits WUP after the wake-up automatically.
    • After transmitting WUP for 1ms, PHY will remain silent until Master PHY sends link training pulses.

In conclusion, Slave PHY in autonomous mode will wake-up the master phy and will not wake-up the master phy when in managed mode.
