TDP158: Using the eval board TDP158RSBEVM shows DVI, not HDMI

Part Number: TDP158

I am using the TDP158RSBEVM board to convert DisplayPort to HDMI for one of our modules, but to test I am using a Viewsonic monitor with a HDMI input.

My GPU shows "DVI" for the connector type in the control panel. I use a different DP to HDMI convertor and the connector type shows up as "HDMI".

Is there a setting for this on the eval board or with use of the TDP158? I see the DP connector has pin 13 (DP_CAD) pulled HI. The DisplayPort specification shows this pin as CONFIG1.

See figures below, the first one is the eval board which yields "DVI", the next one is the other adapter which is "HDMI"

  • Hi,

Pin 13 (DP_CAD) or CONFIG1 being pulled high would indicate to the video source that a DP++ to HDMI adapter has been plugged into it. In this case, it is the TDP158 EVM or the other adapter.

For this particular issue, it looks like once the source sees the adapter being plugged, it went and read the adapter's adaptor ID. The adaptor ID would indicate whether the adapter supports HDMI or DVI.

With TDP158, it does not have a adaptor ID, so the source will assume DVI.

Can you try with a DP159EVM? The DP159 has an adaptor ID and I would expect the source will then see HDMI instead the DVI.

    Thanks

    David

  • Thank you for the response. Yes, that makes sense. I will look into the DP159EVM.
