DS90UB935-Q1: Compatibility of Serializer to use for DS90UB935-Q1 and deserializer DS90UH940-QI.

Part Number: DS90UB935-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UH940-Q1, , DS90UB940-Q1, DS90UB936-Q1, DS90UB949-Q1, DS90UB941AS-Q1

Hi Experts,

Good day.

The customer is asking about the Compatibility of the Serializer to use for DS90UB935-Q1 and the deserializer DS90UH940-Q1.

We have a demo project wherein we have two ECUs with Ser-Deser as DS90UB935-Q1 and DS90UH940-Q1 and we would like to get video streaming work with these two ECUs.
Unfortunately, none of our other ECUs have the listed compatible set of drivers mentioned on both datasheets.

As it is a POC or Demo project,
can we know the just of adaptions on the driver side either the Serialiser or Deserializer side so that we can display the video streaming successfully?

Please advise

Regards,

Josel
  • Hello Joselito,

DS90UB935-Q1 and DS90UB940-Q1 are not compatible with each other. If you want to connect DS90UB935-Q1 to a deserializer with MIPI CSI-2 output you could use a compatible device such as DS90UB936-Q1 to do so.

Or if you need to connect with DS90UB940-Q1 using a different serializer, then you need to use a serializer device such as DS90UB949-Q1, DS90UB941AS-Q1, or other DS90UB94x or DS90UB92x devices which are compatible

  • Hi Casey,

is there any module that we can use to interface both DS90UB935-Q1 and DS90UB940-Q1 ?

    Please advise

    Regards,

    Josel

  • Hello Josel,

No, there is no such module from TI. You would need a processor or FPGA in the middle to receive CSI-2 and then output the video in OLDI, DSI, RGB, or HDMI in order to feed a compatible serializer like 947, 949, 925, 941AS

  • Hi Casey,

    Thank you for your reply.

Can I know exactly what shall be the problem if I get these two devices connected to each other?

    1) will the serializer output signal/data never get detected on the Deserializer side?

    2) will the fps performance go down?

Can you help us to understand the implication,

    If we connect these devices?

Also, As I mentioned last,  we are ready to make driver-related changes either on the serializer or deserializer side.

Can you help to let us know if we can configure the serializer/deserializer from the driver side so that we can get the basic mode of these Ser-Deser compatible?

As it’s a Research and Development  project, we are ready to compromise on a few special features as long as the basic video  Data gets streamed on the ECU2(using Deserialiser 940)  from ECU1(using Serialiser 935)

Also, is it possible to have a telecall/meeting scheduled so that it becomes easier to explain and clarify?

Thank you in advance for your support !!!

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Josel

  • Josel,

935 and 940 are completely incompatible. You will not get a link established between these two devices and you will not get any video data output. There is no need for a meeting on this topic since there is really nothing that can be done here to make these two devices talk to eachother. They are not listed as compatible in any of our documentation so I'm not sure where that assumption came from.

    Best Regards,

    Casey
