DS160PR810: internal PRBS pattern injector and suggestion for PnP PCIe card

Part Number: DS160PR810
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS320PR810

Dear Support,

1. DS160PR810 has internal PRBS pattern injector - can you please share if there is any documentation on how to enable and test the optics with internal test pattern

2. Is there any plug and play PCIe add on card based on the DS160PR810 that you can recommend to me?

3. Regarding the Redriver. I need 16GHz frequency for each channel, will this Redriver (Ds160PR810) can give. Because in the datasheet, they provided the information that CTLE boosts upto 18dB at 8GHz then, how much it'll boosts at 16GHz?

Best regards,
Felix

  • Hi Pohl,
DSPR810 does not have PRBS pattern generator, assuming I understood your question correctly. This device is a linear redriver which basically acts as a wire.

Regarding your second question, I am not sure what you're asking for here? Can you please clarify what your requirements are so I can make a recommendation?

DS320PR810 is a PCIe gen5 linear redriver that can be an option here if you're looking for a redriver. DS320PR810 does not have any PRBS generator function either though. You can inject a PRBS pattern into the redriver but it won't generate a PRBS pattern on its own.

  • hi Vincente,

i am trying to use DS160PR810 as a retimer as an option to improve signal integrity.

Do you have a GUI tool ro recommend or can i know if i can use Sigcon to geenerate PRBS pattern to injector into the DS160PR810EVM-RSC eval kit to signal integrity or eye diagram testing?

For Q2, can you recommend a what are the ready PCIe evaluation kit from your partner ecosystem with this PR810 on board so that I do not need to redesign the PCB board but just purchase from them to kick start teh evaluation?

    Best regards,

    Felix

  • Hi Poh,
DS160PR810 is not a retimer it is a redriver. A redriver is protocol agnostic compared to a retimer. A retimer has a PLL which helps reclock a signal and is autoadaptive. A retimer will also reset your jitter budget compared to a redriver.

Retimers have "PT" instead of "PR" in the device name. We do not have PCIe Gen5 retimers. We have only Gen4 retimers .
