TIOL112: NFAULT usage

Part Number: TIOL112

Hello Support team

My customer inquires TIOL112 questions, could you support?

*NFAULT support the followign three items, is this correct?
1)UVLO on both L+ and VCC_IN
2)Thermal warning
3)Over current

*"Figure 8-3. Device State Diagram" shows only for thermal warning and Over current and does not include UVLO, is this correct? Do you have diagram with UVLO?

*Can MCU find which fault occur? If yes, please let me know how TIOL112 indicate each fault.

Thanks,
Koji Ikeda

  • Hello Ikeda-san,

If the voltage drops below the UVLO threshold, the NFAULT pin will be driven low, however this does not cause a device state change which impacts other features of the device such as disabling the driver when a Current Fault is detected, or the temperature becomes too high.  This is because a UVLO condition does not pose a risk to the device in the same way that high current or temperature may cause physical damage.  Therefore there is no additional figure showing UVLO to share because only the NFAULT pin is reflective of a UVLO condition that has occurred.

Because NFAULT is the Logical OR of three fault conditions, there is no direct way to determine which of the three events created the NFAULT pin to pull low.

    Regards,

    Jonathan
