DP83849IF: Confirmation on other alternate ICs

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking alternate ICs for DP83849IF (which is using for Ethernet to fiber optic conversion)

So, I found few of these 

Could you please confirm that whether the above mentioned ICs can work like DP83849IF (PHY - PHY)

If not please give any alternate solutions

    Hello Tex,

    DP83822 and DP83869HM both support Fiber interface, but are all single port devices. TI Ethernet Portfolio doesn't have any other dual port devices.

    DP83822 support 100Base-FX and DP83869 supports 100Base-FX and 1000Base-X.
    If the speed requirement is 100M, then I suggest using DP83822 and if the speed requirement is 1000M, then I suggest using DP83869HM.

    Hello Gokul, 

    I need one more confirmation regarding DP83869EVM as you can see, There is a micro controller on board for register access..

    i just want to convert Ethernet to fiber optic with a power supply..

    Can we do it without a micro controller..???

    Hello Tex,

    Fiber to Copper can be configured through straps. But, you might need to program some registers and read some registers for debug,

    It would be a bit risky if you don't have a way to program registers.

    Thanks for your valuable information Gokul..

    could you please see in the 10th page of DP83869EVM i just need 4th and 5th points which is (Demonstrate unmanaged mode of Media convertor)

    My doubt is can we do the media conversion without MSP430.. Does it actually need ??

    and also in DP83822 EVM will it do Ethernet to fiber optic media conversion or will it take any one of them as input (only Ethernet or fiber optic ).

    Hello Tex,

    As I mentioned, Media Conversion can be done with programming any registers. I mentioned that it is risky as we will not have any degrees of freedom and debug options later. We can still go ahead and design, we will have to review it meticulously to make sure everything is okay.

    DP83822 supports 100Base-FX, but doesn't support media conversion. Sorry that I mentioned DP83822.
